SAM4 MCU Family Reference

This page connects you with all the information you need to evaluate and design with Microchip's 32-bit SAM4 families of microcontrollers.

Family Overview

SAM4E The SAM4E series offers a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet MAC supporting IEEE 1588 and dual CAN. With a single-precision FPU, advanced analog features and security with 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), SAM4E MCUs are ideal for industrial automation and building control applications.
- Cortex®-M4F core @ 120 MHz
SAM4L The SAM4L series delivers the lowest power in active mode (down to 90 µA/MHz) as well as sleep mode with full RAM retention (1.5 µA) and the shortest wake-up time (down to 1.5 µs) in a Cortex-M4 device. The device features an LCD controller, hardware cryptography, USB host and device, peripheral event system, SleepWalking intelligent peripherals and built-in security including 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and a True Random Number Generator (TRNG). Integrated Microchip QTouch® technology makes it easy to bring capacitive touch functionality to your hardware.
- Cortex-M4 core @ 48 MHz
- Low power and USB
SAM4N The SAM4N series is the entry point into Microchip's Cortex-M4 based MCUs. It has seven UARTs, four SPIs, and three I2Cs. Additional features include 12-bit ADC, 10-bit DAC, integrated voltage reference, multiple timers, and PWM. It achieves power consumption levels down to 170 µA/MHz in active mode; down to 20 µA in sleep mode with full RAM retention and wake-up time down to 10 µs; down to 1 µA in backup mode with the RTC running.
- Cortex-M4 core @ 100 MHz
SAM4S The SAM4S series has memory densities up to 2 MB of Flash, with dual bank capability, and 160 KB of SRAM. It achieves 200 µA/MHz in dynamic mode at a low operating frequency; 30 mA at 120 MHz; and 1 µA at 1.8 V in backup mode with the real-time clock (RTC) running. In RAM retention mode, current consumption is below 25 µA.
- Cortex-M4 core @ 120 MHz
