Oscillators and Timers

This section describes the basic operating principles for all oscillators and explains the operation of feed-back oscillators.
It also analyzes the operation of a basic RC sinusoidal feed-back oscillator and demonstrates simple oscillator applications.

Key Concepts

  • Oscillator Basics
  • Feedback Oscillator
  • RC Op-amp Oscillator (Phase-shift oscillator)
  • Triangular-Wave Generator (Relaxation Oscillator)
  • Square-Wave Oscillators
  • Feedback Oscillator: returns a portion of the output back to the input to control oscillation
  • Relaxation Oscillator: uses an R-C timing network to control oscillation
