USB2517 - Can I use the default VID and PID of this hub for mass production?

If you don't plan on going through the USB-IF certification for a logo, you can reuse our Vendor ID (VID)/Product ID (PID) since it's a generic hub. There won't be any collision in functionality. Microchip only needs to give formal permission when the customer is getting USB-IF certification. With PIC® devices, you must follow the certification procedure because each PID has different functionality.

To have VID and PID of your own or to apply for the sublicensing program, go to the https://www.microchip.com/usblicensing/.

The concern here is that drivers, and other OS programs that identify parts based on the PID, gets confused when a mass storage class device and an HID device share the same PID. This is not the case with Microchip's hubs.
