Using MCP2200/2221 on Linux® OS
Does the MCP2200/2221 work under a Linux® install?
The MCP2200/2221 works under a Linux install as long as the install has USB Communications Device Class (CDC) support. The "MCP2200/MCP2221 - Linux Driver Instructions" explain how to verify that the kernel has support for USB CDC drivers. If the OS has CDC support, yet the MCP2200 or the MCP2221 couldn't enumerate, request a USB traffic capture.
Is there a Linux GUI for MCP2221?
No, we don't have a GUI for our MCP2221. We only provide the I²C bus driver and let you use the known tools (e.g., i2c-tools). A GUI would tie us to a specific platform and specific desktop environments, thus, it is beyond our scope. By providing the driver and letting you use the known tools, the MCP2221 can be used in many Linux distributions and boards (e.g., PCs, Raspberry Pi, etc.).
