MPLAB® X IDE - Debug (.elf) File is Locked When Doing a Build/Debug-build

MPLAB® X IDE launches .elf errors like:

  • c:\program files (x86)\microchip\xc32\v1.34\bin\bin\gcc\pic32mx\4.5.2\..\..\..\..\bin/xc32-ld.exe: cannot open output file dist/default/production/TouchDisplay.X.production.elf: Invalid argument
  • make[2]: *** [dist/ENET_Dev/debug/FlexWiFiP24.X.debug.elf] Error 255
  • nbproject/ recipe for target 'dist/ENET_Dev/debug/FlexWiFiP24.X.debug.elf' failed

This issue occurs with MPLAB X IDE v3.35. This is documented in the MPLAB X ReadMe file under the section "Repairs and Enhancements in 3.40". We recommend clicking the performance monitor to force a GC collection.

Note: This is fixed under MPLAB X IDE v3.40. Please upgrade to the latest version of MPLAB X IDE.
