PIC24FJ64GB004 - What is the purpose of the series resistor in the VBUS line?
The resistor is there for ESD Protection. On some device datasheets the resistor value in the VBUS line should have been a maximum of 100 Ω, not 100 KΩ.
An external resistor is not required for the sense attachment. However, external resistance is allowed for ESD protection. Any external ESD diode should be able to operate with a 5 V+ rail.
