MPLAB® XC8, XC16, XC32 Compiler License Questions

Can a site license be purchased through distribution or any other channel?

No. A site license can be purchased only through microchipDIRECT with a quote. It's a custom license and this is the only way our systems can handle it.

If I buy a WorkStation license, what would prevent me from using it simultaneously in three machines? As far as I know, it can be used in 3 house machines. Right?

There is nothing preventing you from doing this technically, however, you would be in breach of our licensing agreement (EULA).

In the site license, I have a number of seats to be used for MPLAB® XC8, XC16, XC32 Compilers (all PRO versions). Is it possible to have the same kind of mix in the network license?

Yes. With the network server license, you get a license file on your server for each license you buy. With a site license, you would only have three (one for XC8, one for XC16 and one for XC32).

Let's say that I have seven engineers to use the compilers (for example, xc8) and I have four licenses. As I understand, every time an engineer wants to use the compiler, he will have to wait for any of the four licenses to rest for at least one hour. Correct?

If you think that only four engineers will need to compile at any given time, or if having a one hour wait every once in a while is okay, then this will work. Anyone with access to the network has access to the license file on the server. A site license restricts access to the users that are in the access file, so you will need seven seats to allow all of them to access it at the same time.

I have to configure a set of licenses to use seven XC8 seats, two XC16 seats and two XC32 seats. What is the most efficient and cheap way to do that?

This depends on how many engineers need to use the licenses at the same time. You also get a volume discount with a site license and only have to manage up to three licenses, whereas with a network server or a workstation license, you will have to manage up to 11 licenses.
