How do I install the Mac® version of XC8 compiler?

The MPLAB® XC8 compiler for Mac® machines has the DMG extension. It is a disk image and can be mounted by double-clicking on it.

Inside the disk image is an installer application. Run this application (by double-clicking the file) and then follow the instructions on the installer dialog.
