Debugger Reads an Incorrect Target Device ID on the Explorer 16 Development Board

The Explorer 16 board has been designed to accommodate both permanently mounted (i.e., soldered on) and detachable PIM processors. Slider switch, S2, allows the user to choose which processor to use. This makes it possible for the Explorer 16 board to support most 3V, pin compatible PIC® MCUs and dsPIC® DSCs with appropriate PIMs.

The S2 switch on the Explorer 16 Development Board needs to be set to the “PIM” position when using a Plugin Module connecting via ICSP/RJ11 to a Microchip debugger. If the switch is not in this position, the ID of a PIC18Fxxxx device will be returned.
