Installing MPLAB® Harmony v2

Choose your operating system from the tabs below:

Run Installer

WinInstall.png
Go to the location where you downloaded the installer. Unzip the downloaded file and run the installer:
harmony_vX_XX_windowsinstall-ier.exe.

Depending on your Windows security settings, you may get a window asking if you are sure you want to run this program. Answer Yes.

Setup

Click Next >.

Accept License Agreement

If you concur, select "I accept the agreement" and click Next >.

Select Installation Location

If you wish to choose an installation location other than the default, you may do so here.
Click Next >.

Choose Modules to Install

In some instances you may only want to install modules from the MPLAB® Harmony framework that you plan to use. If this is the case, uncheck any module you do not want to install. This will only save space on your PC. Unused modules will NOT be compiled into your application.

Begin Installation

Click Next >.

Wait for Installation to Finish

Finish Part 1 of Installation

Leave the "View Readme File" box checked - it will provide critical instructions to complete the installation.
Click Finish.

View Readme File for Further Instructions

The readme file briefly describes the need to install two plugins within MPLAB X IDE to use MPLAB Harmony effectively. The instructions are provided in detail in the steps below.

Open the MPLAB X IDE Plugin Manager

  1. Run MPLAB X IDE and open the plugin manager by selecting from the main menu:
    Tools ▶ Plugins
  2. Select the Downloaded tab
  3. Click the Add Plugins… button on the upper left.

Load the MPLAB Harmony Help Plugin

Navigate to the following directory:
C:\microchip\harmony\vX_XX\doc
(where X.XX represents the version number)
Select the file:
org-microchip-harmony_help.nbm

Click Open.

Add the Next Plugin

Click the Add Plugins… button on the upper left.

Load the MPLAB Harmony Configurator Plugin

Navigate to the following directory:
C:\microchip\harmony\vX_XX\utilities\configurator
(where X.XX represents the version number)
Select the file:
com-microchip-harmonyconfigurator.nbm

Click Open.

Install the Plugins

Click the Install button at the bottom left of the plugin manager window.

Plugin Installer

Click Next >.

Accept the License Agreement

If you concur, check the box next to "I accept the terms in all of the license agreements".

Click Next >.

Dismiss Security Warning

Although the plugins were created and provided by Microchip, they have not been digitally signed. This will trigger a security warning in Windows.

Click Continue.

Plugin Installation Complete

Click Finish.

Verify Installation

If you wish to verify the installation of the plugins, select the Installed tab. You should see the following two plugins somewhere in the list:

  • MPLAB Harmony Help
  • MPLAB Harmony Configurator


Click Close when done.
