How do I program the KEELOQ® keyfob with MPLAB® X?

I cannot program the MCS3142 (key fob) from MPLAB® X IDE. The GUI communicates perfectly with the development board "Embedded Security Development Board" (part of kit DM182017-4).

You cannot directly program the MCS3142 using the development board. In order to program the MCS3142 (key fob) from MPLAB X IDE, a programming tool like the MPLAB PICkit™ is required. For a full list of compatible programmers, go to Development Environment > Programmers on the MCS3142 product page.
