Can the internal temperature sensor in PIC® devices measure ambient temperature?

Ambient temperature can't be measured using the internal temperature sensor in PIC® devices. It is designed to measure the device temperature so when the device gets hot due to various internal parameters, the temperature sensor reflects this.

However, we do have external temperature sensors in Microchip's portfolio, for example, the MCP98XX series of temperature sensors.
