Error Message: "PICkit™ 3 is trying to supply 5.00 volts from the USB port, but the target VDD is measured to be 4.6250 volts."
Certain USB ports are not also able to supply the voltage specified by the PICkit™ 3 settings.
When the difference between the expected supply and VDD is large enough, the PICkit 3 will fail with a message like this:
"PICkit 3 is trying to supply 5.000000 volts from the USB port, but the target VDD is measured to be 4.625000 volts."
A solution for this is to change the PICkit 3 supply voltage settings to match what the port is able to supply. Setting the PICkit 3 supply voltage to 4.6 V allows the PICkit 3 to pass its self-test and proceed to program the target.
